Lucas Warren "Luke" Cameron is an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. and the Bureau Chief in charge of financial and property crimes. A graduate of Georgetown Law, he originally comes from a "nowhere" town in rural Iowa and refuses to look back. He's the federal prosecutor that every defense attorney hates, his boss loves and most women want to have sex with. Sharply dressed and with the arrogance to match you'd never guess that he doesn't have blue blood in his veins.

But when it comes to life outside of the courtroom he can't play it like a game to be won. He's had his fair share of hookups, but always in-between an on-off relationship with FBI agent Janet Ford, which lasted five and a half years. Luke never knew Janet was shot and almost died until he saw a news report on TV and then shit got real. He's been trying to make up for five years of fights and emotional unavailability ever since. But mentioning his ex makes him get irrational because he doesn't ever lose.

Plus, his boss wants Luke to take his job when he moves into the White House and he feels an ever-increasing pressure to win every fucking case since he's channeling his anger into his work. It's not easy being the office golden boy.

the usual suspects;
U.S. Attorney Bryan Alexander—Luke's boss. The U.S. Attorney for Washington D.C. with an eye on becoming White House Counsel. Once got shot in open court and lived to tell about it. Though he no longer prosecutes cases, he spends enough time dealing with political bullshit and headstrong prosecutors.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Russell—Luke's best friend and co-worker. Bureau Chief for violent crimes. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before working as a district attorney in New York, where he was personally recruited by Bryan Alexander. Was the favorite son before Luke. Slept with Luke's ex-girlfriend two years ago and hasn't told him yet. Or maybe ever.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher "Chris" Gillespie—Luke's co-worker. Bureau Chief for narcotics. Originally from Mobile, Alabama. Gillespie has a twin brother, James "Jamie" Gillespie, who works for the DEA.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick "Pat" Ryden—One of the attorneys Luke supervises on his team. The two are polar opposites, with Pat coming from a rich family in Montauk and trying everything to not be that guy. As a result, the two sometimes butt heads, and Luke always wins because he's the boss. Despite that, Luke sees potential in him and Pat has been his second chair on several cases.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Johanna Martinez—Another one of the attorneys Luke supervises on his team.

Senior Special Agent Janet Ford—Luke's ex-girlfriend. Also the only woman he's ever said he loves. They broke up five times in five and a half years. This last time he did it to protect her but that doesn't mean he's not still pissed off about it. Luke is still in love with Janet but can't in good conscience ask her for a sixth chance so the two are focused on rebuilding their friendship.

Investigator Bryan Ritter—Lead U.S. Attorney's investigator. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Formerly with the Secret Service, but left that job to get out of bureaucracy and spend more time with his wife and two kids. Has prior experience in crime scene investigation and once spent four months acting as a bodyguard for Luke's ex-girlfriend as a favor to him. Since he shares a name with the U.S. Attorney, he usually goes by his last name.
